School Council Updates

We are thrilled to welcome Sarah Happel as the newest representative on the Baldwin School Council! Sarah is already a well-known face in our community as a parent of two Baldwin students and a driving force behind making STEM Fest a reality. She brings energy, dedication, and a deep love for our school, and we are excited to have her leadership on the Council.

The School Council plays an important role in partnering with school leadership to support an inclusive, equitable, and vibrant learning environment for all Baldwin students. The School Council Handbook emphasizes the importance of maintaining open communication with families, including ensuring that representatives are accessible and connected to the broader school community.

I am a third-year Baldwin parent (kids in 1st and CPP this year). I am looking for a way to make impactful change. There is so much I love about our school, and I want to help Baldwin continue to grow toward its goals of equity and belonging. I want every child and family to feel they belong at Baldwin—regardless and because of their identities. Meeting each child’s learning and social-emotional needs is part of that. Having each family have a role and a voice if they want it is part of that. I am a systems thinker (family therapist), and I look forward to sharing that skill with our community so we can further realize Baldwin’s values together.

I joined Baldwin during COVID and am dedicated to supporting Ms. Heidi and staff in infusing engaging learning and play into the school. Mom to soon to be 5th and 2nd graders, I'm excited to see how we support learners growing to their full potential across all grades. I draw on a varied background in public education as a former teacher, school administrator, and current district administrator to ground my thinking.

Born and raised in Cambridge, Matt runs the nonprofit Cambridge Basketball Lab. The Lab provides mentorship and basketball skill-development workouts for Cambridge middle and high school youth 100% free of charge to families.  He also proudly leads the Baldwin Hoops program alongside Harvard undergraduate volunteers.  He has been coaching boys basketball at CRLS for 20+ years as an assistant coach and now the Freshman Head Coach.  Previously, he has worked for the NBA, Celtics, Patriots, UNICEF, and MENTOR.

An educator for 20 years, Jennifer is the Executive Director of Primary Source, an educational nonprofit specializing in inclusive curriculum and professional development. She partners with over 75 districts and DESE to prioritize elevating marginalized voices in history education.

A public high school science teacher and former Clerk for Friends of Baldwin. Andrew is deeply invested in cultivating a strong school community for both students and adults and has been part of the Baldwin community for the past four years.

Mother to a Baldwin 3rd grader, Chunying has proudly served as a parent representative for two years. With a background in political science, she is committed to partnering with families and leadership to make Baldwin a more inclusive, welcoming, and equitable space where every student belongs.
